How to remove my phone number from Google search, free, in 5 steps
You can remove your phone number from Google search for free with Google's own tool, Results about you. It finds results that show your number, address or email, and lets you ask Google to drop them. The catch: Google only hides the result. The page that lists your number is still out there, so step 5 deals with that.
How to remove my phone number from Google search with Results about you
These steps come from Google's help page. Google redesigned the tool in February 2025 and added alerts for new results (Google).
- Open the tool. In the Google app, tap your profile picture, then Results about you. On a computer, go to myactivity.google.com/results-about-you.
- Add what to look for. Tap Get started and enter your name and your phone number. You can add more than one number, plus your addresses, email addresses, nicknames and maiden name.
- Turn on alerts. Choose email or app notifications. Google checks Search regularly and tells you when a new result matches your info.
- Request removals. Open the To review tab, pick a result, and tap Request to remove. Track it under Removal requests: in progress, approved, denied or undone.
- Remove it at the source. Open the site that listed your number and use its opt-out page. More on that below.
Shortcut: when you spot your number in a normal search, tap the three dots next to the result, then Remove result. Approved removals can take a few hours to show up.

What Google will and won't remove
Results about you covers phone numbers, home addresses and email addresses. Google's separate policy page also covers Social Security and other ID numbers, bank and card numbers, signatures, medical records, login details and doxxing, through a request form where you list the exact URLs.
Google may say no to results from government, school, news or business sites it considers valuable to the public. Sometimes an approved removal only hides the page for searches that include your name. And Google is clear that removing a result "doesn't mean that the info is gone from the internet."
Step 5: delete your number at the source
Most results with your phone number come from people-search sites. Those sites are data brokers, and the FTC says most offer a free opt-out, though you may have to verify your identity and check back later because the info can reappear (FTC). If you live in California, the state's free DROP tool sends one deletion request to every registered data broker.
This is the part we pay for. On our own Cloaked account, 1,363 of the 14,636 exposures it has secured since June 2025 were phone numbers, on sites like Radaris (13 exposures) and VeriPages (8). We cover the five ways your number gets out in how do spammers get my phone number.

Watch out for "we'll remove you from Google" scams
Because the real tool is free, a text or email that says your number is "exposed in 23 Google results" and asks you to pay to remove it is a red flag. Don't tap the link. Open the Google app yourself instead. The same rule kept coming up in our spam texts guide: never reply, block and report.

Common questions about removing your number from Google
Is Google's Results about you tool free?
Yes. It's part of your Google account and the Google app, and there's no fee. Be wary of any text or email that offers to remove your number from Google for money.
Does removing my number from Google delete it from the internet?
No. Google says it can only remove results from Google Search. The page stays on the original site, so you also need to opt out of that site to take it down at the source.
How long does a Google removal take?
Google says approved removals can take a few hours to take effect. You can track each request under Removal requests, where it shows as in progress, approved or denied.
Can Google remove my address too?
Yes. Results about you covers home addresses and email addresses as well as phone numbers. A separate request form covers things like ID numbers, bank details and doxxing.
